Due to its location and geography Costa Rica is a biodiversity hotspot. Even though it's just a tiny fraction of the world's surface, it's home to 6.5% of the planet's species. The country has been working none-stop to create a web of protected areas and national parks, ensuring that its unique ecosystems thrive, also set an ambitious goal to be carbon-neutral by 2021. The nation heavily relies on almost 100% clean energy sources like hydropower, wind, and solar to reduce its carbon footprint.

Costa Rica is tackling deforestation head-on by promoting reforestation and it is also big on sustainable farming practices, Costa Rica's achievement in reversing deforestation has been part of the vision, and collective efforts resulting from 21% of the country’s territory in 1987 to an estimated 75% 2023, including organic and shade-grown coffee, while safeguarding the precious watersheds. Costa Rica's Payments for Environmental Services Program (PES) is a special financial system that does something pretty cool. It helps protect forests and fights against land damage. It's the first of its kind in the whole region.

This country is a poster child for eco-tourism. Visitors can enjoy zip-lining, jungle hikes, and wildlife tours that respect the environment and support conservation. 

Education plays a significant role in Costa Rica's conservation journey. Local schools and communities actively participate in environmental programs, nurturing a culture of eco-awareness.

The country´s coasts are essential nesting sites for sea turtles. Green, leatherback, and hawksbill turtles find refuge here, thanks to ongoing conservation efforts. Watching these turtles’ nest and hatch is a remarkable experience.
